Why is coffee cupping important for Nu Coffee?
Coffee cupping is an integral part of our quality assurance process at Nu Coffee, essential for evaluating the aroma, flavor, acidity, body, and aftertaste of our coffee beans. This method is a meticulous and systematic process that ensures only the highest-quality beans make it into your cup.
The process starts with selecting premium green coffee beans sourced from renowned coffee-growing regions like Ethiopia. These beans are expertly roasted to perfection, unlocking their unique flavors and aromas, which are then showcased during cupping sessions.
Coffee cupping scores typically range from 0 to 100, with 100 being the highest possible score. The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) developed a coffee tasting and scoring methodology called coffee cupping, where certified samplers called Q-graders give the grades. The SCA's quality classification scale ranges as follows:
- 90–100: Outstanding, specialty
- 85–99.99: Excellent, specialty
- 80–84.99: Very good, specialty
- < 80.0: Below specialty quality, not specialty
Nu Coffee only uses coffee beans with cupping scores of 86+ points, ensuring that our coffee is consistently outstanding and of the highest specialty quality. This dedication to excellence is reflected in every cup of Nu Coffee you enjoy.
Coffee cupping is not just a quality control measure; it is also an educational and sensory experience for coffee enthusiasts. It allows you to delve deeper into the world of coffee, exploring different origins, processing methods, and roast profiles, ultimately enhancing your understanding and appreciation of this beloved beverage.
